Research tells us that students make choices about drinking and driving based not only on their attitudes toward it, but also on their attitudes toward the alternatives to drinking and driving, such as asking a friend for a ride home or calling their parents for a ride home. In order for students to change their attitudes toward drinking and driving, they need to understand that there IS a likelihood that a negative outcome awaits, such as an arrest, a crash, and/or a life changing injury.

Other Choices to Drinking and Driving
Don’t drink in the first place.
Ask a friend who has not been drinking, for a ride.
Have enough money in your pocket to call a taxi.
Call parents to come and get you.
Stay where you are until you can get a safe ride home. Drinking and driving is NEVER a safe situation for anyone…….that means you, the driver, other passengers, and anyone else on the road, including pedestrians walking down the street!
Don’t assume that bad things won’t happen to YOU as a result of drinking and driving. It only takes one bad decision to ruin the rest of your life, or someone else’s. Is it all really worth it?

Remember
If you are under the age of 21, drinking alcohol is ILLEGAL, period. Drinking and driving while under the influence is ILLEGAL no matter what your age. Please, don’t drink illegally, but if you do decide to drink, then don’t drive. Under no circumstances get into to a car with someone who has been drinking! Your life and the lives of others may depend on it.
