Three students from the Georgetown Alternative Program came up with the original concept for the making of The Right Choice. They contacted Matthew and Company Productions to help them breathe life into their concept. From the beginning, everyone agreed that the drinking and driving issue among teens was serious enough that the goal was to produce a film with high production value, that would have a significant impact on the youth who saw it, and would be so successful in the local school district that distribution to districts all over the United States would be inevitable. The Right Choice is designed to stimulate dialogue between students, students and teachers and most importantly students and their parents. As students are faced with increasing peer pressure, it is important that they understand that they have choices. They do not need to follow the crowd. To facilitate this, every copy of this film will come with a "Talking Points" pamphlet that can be used by teachers and taken home by students to stimulate conversation with parents.

The film was shot in Georgetown, Texas. The actors played a vital role in the development of the script. The actors are 9th through 12th grade students who attend Georgetown High School, Round Rock High School and Pflugerville High School. The interviews at the end of the film are from two young men who live and work in the Austin and Marble Falls areas. Their stories drive home the point that this is a very real and very dangerous problem right here in our own community.
